Plot,Synopsis,Story:
A popular thief and leader of a band of smugglers grows up poor in the time of the Joseon Dynasty’s most infamous and brutal tyrant king. By winning people’s hearts and listening to his own call, he becomes the first revolutionary of the Joseon era and leads an effort to bring down the emperor.
Hong Gil Dong (Yoon Kyoon Sang from Doctor Crush) is the son of chamberlain Ah Mo Gae (Kim Sang Joong from A New Leaf) and Geum Ok (Shin Eun Jung from Hyde, Jekyll and I). Hong Gil Dong’s grandfather was also a chamberlain. He is himself meant to be a chamberlain. The world told him he couldn’t be much, being a “lowborn.” But Hong Gil Dong is brilliant, both mentally and physically. He has watched his father lied to, year after year, by nobles who told them they would free him and his family. He has watched his mother beaten for making a mistake in front of the nobles while he watched helplessly. His father wishes to see the corrupt royal establishment fall. Hong Gil Dong lives life under the weight of the torture his family has faced, and the stigma of being the child of lowly birth. Initially, he is simply a child (Lee Ro Woon) trying to find his way in the world. Eventually, he embraces his destiny, gains a conscience, becomes the leader of a band of smugglers, and starts a revolution against tyranny. Hong Gil Dong is the thief that steals the nation’s heart and becomes a legend.
